J&K govt identifies land for IIMC in Jammu

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday identified land for establishing a branch of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) here.

Chairing the Jammu District Development Board meeting here, chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday approved 88 kanals (1.1 Acres) land for the purpose.

Minister for Higher Education Abdul Ghani Malik told PTI, "After preparing detailed project report, the Government will approach Union Government for releasing funds.

"New academic session will be arranged in rented accommodation in Jammu till the construction of the building is completed. The issue of classes would come in the meeting tomorrow," he said.

Applications for 15 seats of the course in the state branch stand advertised by IIMC New Delhi and classes are scheduled to start in the last week of July.

IIMC has approved four new regional centres -- Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The Institute presently has branches in New Delhi and Dhenkanal in Orissa.
